Community Involvement » Tenant Participation » Principles
Included in our Tenant Participation Strategy are a set of principles that the
Association hopes to achieve to develop effective tenant participation. Selections
of these are included below:
• Linstone is committed to developing good customer relations and encouraging
you to have real input and influence in decisions affecting your home.
• We attempt to encourage tenants to have a real input and influence
in decisions affecting their homes. As an organisation that is locally based
and managed by a tenant-led management committee, Linstone recognises the importance
of community involvement and participation in providing effective services which
are more responsive to the local needs of an area.
• Having sought the opinion of service users and reviewed our existing
participation methods we have now developed a set of aims and objectives for
effective participation. These objectives should assist the Association in meeting
our Tenant Participation aims and ensuring that we allow service users the opportunity
to participate fully in the organisation.
• To ensure that Tenant Participation influences all aspects of the Association’s
service delivery and development to achieve the highest possible standards.
• To ensure that all staff and committee members understand and are committed
to the concept of Tenant Participation.
• To raise awareness of our commitment to Tenant Participation amongst
our service users.
• To ensure that the Association has service users at the core of everything
that we do.
• To encourage Equal Opportunities and eliminate any forms of discrimination.
We will attempt to ensure that tenants, residents and service users are not
excluded from actively participating on the grounds of sex or marital status,
race, ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, or any other personal
attributes, including beliefs and opinions, such as religious beliefs or political
opinions.
• Legislative requirements allowing, to involve tenants, residents or
service users before formulating any policy in order for consultation to start
with a “blank” agenda. This will alleviate any concerns that the
landlord is guiding the participation to meet its own agenda.
• To ensure that everyone who contributed to the consultation process
is informed of the decision(s) reached following the consultation exercise.
• To prioritise the Association’s policy review timetable dependent
on the level of participation required by service users and develop a framework
for policy and procedural consultation.
