Our Houses » How to Apply » Allocations Policy
The Association welcomes applications from anyone 16 years of age or over. Our policy aims to be fair and does not discriminate on the grounds of race, religion, sex, physical ability, appearance, marital status or sexual orientation.
There is generally no limit to the number of areas or house types you can select and it is possible to choose up to one bedroom size larger than required to meet your family circumstances.
How Our Houses Are Let
Linstone will allocate 50% of its empty properties through nominations received from Renfrewshire Council. You should ensure therefore that you have a live application for housing with Renfrewshire Council which has been ticked to confirm your willingness to accept an offer of housing from the Housing Association. The referrals from the Councill will be a mixture of statutory homeless and general cases.
The remaining half will be let directly by Linstone primarily from applications received directly into the Assoication with a small number set aside to deal with special cases and referrals from other agencies such as Women’s Aid, Social Work department, etc. Who Gets Priority The major determining factor in assessing applications is the level of need for a new home, which the applicant has. This is done by way of a combined priority and points system. The vacant property will be awarded to the person with the highest level of priority and points. Priorities are awarded as follows:- Group 1:- Statutory Homelessness. Group 2:-Medical and Community Care Needs. Group 3:- All other applicants in points order; including local moves and non-statutory homeless persons. Within these groupings applicants are then given points to reflect their current housing situation. Circumstances for which points can be awarded include:- • Overcrowding i.e. current accommodation is too small. • Underoccupation i.e. current accommodation is too large. • Sharing amenities such as a bathroom or kitchen. • Lack of amenities e.g. no inside toilet or electricity. • Current accommodation is structurally unsound. • Urgent social need e.g. fleeing domestic violence. • Insecurity of tenure e.g. those in tied accommodation, armed forces. • Current accommodation unsuitable e.g. children/OAPs living in a common entrance upper flat. • Family support, where a relative/carer provides/requires a level of care or support. How Offers Are Made When a house becomes available it is matched to the applicant with the highest priority and points. Where two applicants have the same total, preference will be given to the earliest application. You will generally be contacted in writing or by telephone when a suitable property becomes available.
