HOMES Mobility Scheme
• Is your job too far away to travel to every day?
• Do you need support from relatives or friends?
• Or do they need your support?
• Are you trying to escape domestic violence or harassment?
• Do you have other pressing reasons to move, such as health problems?

Landlords agree to rehouse a small number of HOMES Mobility Scheme movers each year. If a local authority or housing association tenant can demonstrate a need to move, they might be eligible to move through this scheme.

If after applying an applicant is considered eligible, the landlord will get in touch with any other landlords who may be able to offer them a home immediately or put them on a waiting list for the area they want to move to.

There is no automatic right to move through the HOMES Mobility Scheme and landlords does not have to accept nominations.

HOMESWAP
HOMESWAP is a UK-wide database of people who want to swap their home. If you are living in permanent, self-contained accommodation and renting from a council or housing association and you want to move within the UK then you can register on HOMESWAP.

Important - both partners in any exchange must have the permission of their landlord.

Tenants of private landlords, homeowners and people living in shared ownership properties can't use this scheme.

Once you have applied Homeswap will send you a letter confirming your details and reference number and, if applicable, details of anyone who closely matches what you’re looking for. Homeswap carries out an automatic database search every six weeks to see if there any new potential swap partners, and if there are, they will send you the details.

Lists of people who want to move into your area (from all over the UK) are produced every month. We have copies of these lists at our office. Your own details will appear on the HOMESWAP lists in the areas you’ve chosen.
