Improving Our Homes » Wider
Role
Linstone's core activities relate to managing and maintaining socially rented
homes while also providing factoring and estate management service to owners in
the area.
In addition to the core tasks, Linstone is involved in a number of other
activities that are often referred to as 'wider role'. These projects
usually have some connection to housing and, in addition, tend to be aimed at
improving one of the following:
• the environment
• employment opportunities
• local communities
Often the projects would be too small to be run by one Association. So,
Linstone works jointly with other Housing Associations or other charitable
organisations in the area to make them most effective. The Associations
make a contribution by devoting some staff time to monitoring the projects.
Currently, we are involved in the following wider action projects:
Recycle Renfrewshire
This project trains unemployed people to refurbish and repair computers and
household before distributing them free of charge to the local community.
The aim of the project is to take poverty in Renfrewshire, assist people to have
greater access to new technology and the Internet, whilst providing a route back
to work for unemployed people through training and work experience. If you
have furniture or computer equipment that you would like to donate, please call
the project on:
Tel: 0141 889 1175 Email:
recycling@thewisegroup.co.uk.
If you think you could benefit from receiving furniture or equipment, please
contact your Housing Officer at Linstone who can assist in making a referral to
the project on your behalf.
Financial Advice Project
This project should commence around the end of 2006. It is a joint project
delivered by Linstone on behalf of the local Housing Associations in
Renfrewshire collectively know as FLAIR (Federation of Local Associations In
Renfrewshire).
The aim of this project will be to provide specific welfare benefits advice to
tenants and residents within the Association's areas. Some of the main
aspects of the role is to provide comprehensive advice to new tenants, residents
experiencing debt problems and casework with specific groups. It is
intended that this project will assist local residents with areas like housing
benefit, claiming correct benefits (i.e. Working Families Tax Credit, Incapacity
Benefit etc) and managing their income more effectively.
Smartwater
This project is being delivered by Paisley South and involves a unique barcode
being painted onto the householders items. if property is stolen then if
recovered the police should be able to trace the rightful owner. This
initiative has been undertaken in other parts of the United Kingdom and has
proven to be very successful. Around 300 of Linstone's tenants will
benefit from this project and should be completed by the end of 2006.
